Mandingo Gown

A Mandingo gown, made from 43 narrow strips of indigo, plain weave, cotton. It is embroidered with cotton over the front and back in white, yellow, green, blue, and red. The predominant shapes are crosses, diamonds, zigzags, stripes, and spirals. It has a pocket just below the neckline on the front. The term Mandingo here, is associated with Muslim elites from the north of Sierra Leone.
