Historical wax cylinder recording made by Northcote Whitridge Thomas, a British government anthropologist who conducted field research in Sierra Leone in 1914-15. NWT656 (m on cylinder rim). 1. Announcement: Record 656, Sendugu, July 2nd 1914. Kundi [?], one string guitar. 2. Ref tone. 3. Solo bowed chordophone. 4. Rewound. 5. As track 3. NB: A kundi is a harp from the Azande of the northern Democratic of the Congo. A kondi is a lamellophone from Sierra Leone. Neither of these instruments would appear to be that played in this recording. Reasonable quality recording but weak signal. C51/3032 (better quality) is the master, C51/3033 is a duplicate.
