Mandingo Cap

A Mandingo cotton embroidered cap. It is decorated with vertical panels of zigzag lines in red and black, and a border of black and white lines. The top of he cap is tufted. Mandingo in this context refers to a style of decorated work worn by Muslim elites. Alldridge mentions that the cap comes from Mandingo Country , this may refer to the Muslim state of Moria in the north-west of Sierra Leone.
