Female Figure with Staff
This carving depicts a woman standing on a pedestal. She has a typical ridge hairstyle, with an ornate comb inserted into each side. Unusually, she is accompanied by a wooden staff, topped with a female head, resembling a sowei mask. There are many such staffs in the British Museum collection, and they are often associated with the Bundu, or Sande, society.
