Dance Apron

A reversible apron, worn as part of a dancers costume. It consists of a wide leather band that has been covered with cloth: it is red, white, and brown, striped on one side, and has pink embroidered cloth on the other. Two strips of leather are fastened to each corner so that is can be tied round the waist. Attached to the band are three cloth flaps: On one side they are covered in a patchwork of pink, red, brown, orange, and yellow, fabric, joined with leather strips. The other side is plainer, covered in braided blue and white cotton cord. The British Museum catalogue notes that this may be a Yoruba piece, collected in Sierra Leone.
