Character Box
This item is recorded in the British Museum catalogue as a Kroomans character Box. It consists of a wooden box, with a hollwed-out cavity. Kru/Kran men from southern Liberia served as sailors all along the west African coast and had their own quarter, Krootown, in Freetown. This item presumably held a testimonial from a former employer, when applying for a job.
