Photographic Print
Black and white photographic print showing the crowning of a native king. The king is the chief of Kafu Bullon, known as Be Sebora, or Bai Sherbro. The man reading a book on the left is J. C. E. Parkes, the Secretary for Native Affairs. He is reading either a letter from the Governor in Freetown giving his approval, or the text of previous treaties with the Bullom. This photo is part of a collection from an album put together by William Vivian in 1889; Vivian was a Missionary with the United Methodist Free Churches, and is likely to have taken the photographs himself. This is an albumen print.
