Photographic Print
Black and white photographic print showing the crowning of a native king. The king is the chief of Kafu Bullon, known as Be Sebora, or Bai Sherbro. Musicians can be seen playing the balanji, or xylophone, and on drums; a crouching masked devil can also be seen in the centre of the ring - it may be kolloh, the masked devil of Yongro. This photo is part of a collection from an album put together by William Vivian in 1889; Vivian was a Missionary with the United Methodist Free Churches, and is likely to have taken the photographs himself. This is an albumen print.
