Carved Twin Figure
The original Sierra Leone National Museum accession registers record this as a Twin Figure from Pendembu. The register further records that it was Used to represent a dead twin and given all the care received by the surviving twin to prevent the spirit of the deceased from harming the living twin . The scarification markings are hairstyle are thought to be typical of the Kpaa Mendi and Kono. The figure wears an ear-ring on its right ear, and is carved with a waist band and shoes. It was donated to the Museum by Elizabeth Hirst, a Senior Lecturer in Education at Fourah Bay College.
