Ayogbo Headdress
This is a headdress of the Ayogbo Society. According to the original Sierra Leone National Museum accession register, the Ayogbo devil carries a thunder axe and detects witches and thieves by the help of a juju . Members of the Agungun and Poro societies may become members of Ayogbo. Prior to being purchased by the Museum, the masquerade had performed in Mahera in Kafu-Bullom Chiefdom, Port Loko District. The headdress was sold to the Museum so that the society could raise funds to make a new devil.
