Cotton Trousers
This is a pair of kola dyed cotton trousers. The Sierra Leone National Museum catalogue notes that they were worn by Paramount Chief Kande Alusenu II when he returned from the ceremonial bush to become chief, and that he was the only Paramount Chief to wear traditional costume when the Duke (of Edinburgh?) visited Freetown (in 1961?); he was apparently laughed at by the other chiefs.
