Leather Pouch
A cylindrical leather pouch for holding bottles. The bottom end is decorated with tooled and painted leather, and the bag is closed by drawing together the top with a braided leather strap. This bag was donated to the British Museum by Sir Harry Johnston who worked in Liberia - it may be either from Liberia or Sierra Leone. This example is typical of Muslim Sierra Leonean leatherwork in the provinces, commonly known as Mandingo.
