Model Canoe

A model canoe, carved out of wood. An intricate geometric pattern has been engraved along both sides, and the base. There are a number of such model boats in early museum collections from Sierra Leone; they may have been made specifically for sale as souvenirs. This was originally part of the Wellcome Historical Medical Museum collection. It was acquired by the British Museum in 1954.
