Leather Pouch
A double leather pouch with flaps decorated with a tooled geometric design. It has four leather loops to which are attached leather tassels and plaited leather buttons. This example has a spherical leather flask attached to it; the British Museum catalogue suggests it might be for storing gun-powder. The leatherwork on this bag is known as Mandingo leatherwork, commonly associated with Muslim elites.
