Black and white photographic print showing a scene of the crowning of a native king. The king is the chief of Kafu Bullom, known as Be Sebora, or Bai Sherbro, and can be seen in the front row wearing a European top hat. The man European cloths, holding an open book, is J. C. E. Parkes, the Secretary for Native Affairs and the Sierra Leonean clergyman is Rev. Henry Boston, base in Yongro. The man, third from the left, wearing a lighter gown, is likely to be Be Same, the Paramount chief of the neighbouring Loko Massama chiefdom. The the Europeans are Dr Kavanagh of the Army Medical Department, Lieut. Bodden, aide-de-camp to the Governor, and Lieut. Lendy, of the 2nd Battalion, West India Regt. This photo is part of a collection from an album put together by William Vivian in 1889; Vivian was a Missionary with the United Methodist Free Churches, and is likely to have taken the photographs himself. This is an albumen print.
