Fringed Grass bag

An unusual grass bag, designed to shield its contents in wet weather. It is an openwork netted bag, protected by lengths of grass, forming a fringed covering. A second fringed covering has been attached to the handle, which can be pulled up over the plaited domed top, acting as a second layer of fringing. Alldridge called this sort of bag a Portmanteau .
