Gbangbani Figure
This is described as a carving associated with the menÕs Gbangbani society, found among the Limba and Loko people in northern Sierra Leone. The figure depicts a woman standing upright, and it originally had moveable arms, though one is now missing. It has a dark brown colour from the herbs that were rubbed onto the figure during ceremonies. It was acquired from a Pa Sara Limba of Kamakwie in Bombali District, where it had been used in the Gbangbani Society Bush.
