Fula song
Ethnomusicological sound recording made by Cootje van Oven. Fula song, accompanied by one tambe and one guitar with capo tasto and amplifier. The meaning of the song is "If anybody gives you money, you should be fair to him and respect him". Names of many people and places can be heard in this song. The singer, who has been all over the country, is the specific singer/dancer for the Paramount Chief of Mambolo Chiefdom, also in the Kambi District. While singing she does make dance-like movement and the players really do the same. The tambe is a transverse flute. There is no absolute certainty about the number of finger holes in this particular tambe, but three is likely. The instrument is 28" long. The guitar is played melodically.
